2 Player Games on One Phone: 10 Free Games to Play Together

Two people, one phone, ten minutes to kill. Waiting for food, sitting in the back of a car, a power cut with one charged battery. Most "multiplayer" games want two devices, two accounts and a Wi-Fi network. These do not.

Every game on this list runs in a browser on a single phone, tablet or laptop. Open the page, hand one side to your friend and start. No download, no account, nothing to install.

How playing on one phone works

There are three ways two people can share one screen, and each suits a different kind of game:

Fast games for two

1. Paw Hockey. Air hockey where the pucks are cats. Put the phone flat between you, and each player drags a paw paddle with one finger. Both fingers work at once, so it plays like a tiny real table. Every 20 seconds another puck drops in, up to five at a time: a spinning kitten, a heavy capybara, a rainbow donut that never slows down. First to 10 goals wins.

2. Meme Heads Soccer. Two giant heads, one ball and big thumb buttons on each side of the screen. Every 20 seconds you get a super shot. Matches are short and loud, and the scoreline is usually something absurd like 9 to 8. Also works on one keyboard.

3. Rooftop Bonk. A cat and a dog on a rooftop, one button each. Hop, wind up and bonk your rival into the pool. With only one button it is the easiest game here to teach to someone who never plays games.

Turn-based games for two

4. 8-Ball Kittens. Classic 8-ball pool on a tall table built for phones. The balls are curled-up kittens and the cue ball is a ball of yarn. Aim with one finger, pull back and let go, then hand the phone over. It follows real 8-ball rules: solids and stripes, ball in hand after a foul, and the black ball last.

5. Four in a Row, Checkers and Tic-Tac-Toe. Cats vs Dogs: Board Night has four classic board games in one place, with cat and dog pieces. One player is cats, the other is dogs. Four in a row is the best of the bunch for two people with five minutes.

6. Crazy Eights. Kek Cards is crazy eights for up to four players on one phone. A privacy screen covers your hand when the phone is passed, so nobody sees your cards. If you need the rules, here is our guide to crazy eights rules.

7. Two-player solitaire. Meme Solitaire has a mode where two players take turns on the same deal and compare scores. Good for a parent and a kid.

Co-op games for two

Not every pair wants to compete. These are games where you win together.

8. Paw Pals. A cat and a dog escape a pet hotel. Each player controls one animal, and the levels need both: one holds a button while the other crosses, one is small enough for vents, the other is heavy enough for pressure plates. Plays on one keyboard or one phone.

9. Fart Raft. A cat and a dog steer a raft down a river by tooting. Toot at the same time to jump over logs. It is as silly as it sounds, and it is the one kids ask to replay.

No phone at all?

10. Pen and paper. If the battery dies, tic-tac-toe, dots and boxes, and hangman need only a napkin and a pen. Dots and boxes is the most underrated of the three: draw a grid of dots, take turns connecting two dots, and whoever closes a box writes their initial in it and goes again.

Picking the right game

For two people who play games a lot, go with Paw Hockey or Meme Heads Soccer. They are fast, and skill matters.

For a parent with a young kid, Rooftop Bonk (one button) and four in a row are the easiest to explain.

For a long wait, 8-Ball Kittens and crazy eights hold up for a full hour, because a single game takes a while and nobody gets bored waiting for a turn.

All our games for two are on the 2 player games page.
